In this video I want to share with you how popular video hosting sites are at the moment, how incredibly easy they are to use, and the reasons why I am so excited about video marketing right now.
To start to show you just how powerful video marketing can be, we’re going to head over to Alexa.com. Alexa is a website that collects data from sites around the Internet on how much traffic different websites get. It is not 100%, but it gives you a good idea of the amount of traffic any website is getting it any one particular time.
Basically, under Google, TradeMe and Facebook, YouTube is the fourth most trafficked website in New Zealand right now, and holds a similar placement worldwide. The only thing that’s different globally are the sites that sit above it, with Yahoo replacing TradeMe.
YouTube is also becoming more and more the go to website for searches than ever before. I know from experience that whenever I require information which could be easily shown to me in tutorial format, I will search YouTube for this first. This is why tutorial and how-to videos do so very well on YouTube.
Today we’re going to go on a tour of YouTube so you can get a better understanding of everything that there and how you can use it to your advantage.
When you first arrive at YouTube, you are presented with the videos are being viewed right now. As every time you come to the homepage of YouTube and you see the same video come up you know that video is very popular right now.
Next up is the featured videos, followed by the most popular videos, sorted by category, for example, this video here is the most popular video in Entertainment, this in music, and so on.
Now, if we click on the videos tab here, you are automatically served the most viewed videos today in all the YouTube categories. Say you have a business selling sporting products, you can click on the Sport category. This will bring up the most viewed videos today in the sporting category. All of these categories can be viewed by Today, This Week, This Month or All Time.
Now, when you click on a category, you are automatically served the Most Viewed videos, but you can also choose from a range of other options to have them served to you here. You could sort them by most popular, Rising Videos (these are the videos a lot of people are watching), Most Discussed (videos people are commenting on), Most Recent (recently added), Most Responded (those who have had a video response added), Top Favorites (which are the videos who have had the most people add to their favourites), Top Rated (which are the videos which have had the most people give them good ratings).
Now, Google ranks the videos at YouTube and in the search engines by taking into account a wide variety of factors, much like how it ranks websites in a search. Some of the factors Google takes into account when ranking your video, both at YouTube and in the search engines, is how many views your video has had, how many comments, how many ratings your video has and just generally how popular your video has been with watchers.
For this example we will have a look through the rising videos that have had the most views in the last 24 hours. This will give us an example of what is hot right now. The thing is, there is a quick and easy way to cash in on the traffic of other rising videos, so you can get your view count up, get some comments and also some traffic to your website very quickly.
If you see something that particularly interests you that has got a lot of views in a short amount of time, simply click on the video, cut and copy the title, and also the tags of that video. Then you can create a video, post it as a response to that video, use all the tags that video uses and then you will show up immediately in the related videos, straight after that video has played.
All this will become clear after you have created your first video and uploaded it to your own channel, which is coming up in future videos in this video marketing series. This is a great trick I have used countless times with my own videos in various niches to get eyes on my videos and traffic to my websites.
So there you have it. A brief introduction to YouTube and how it works. Stay tuned for our next video marketing video which teaches you how you can get your own directors channel up at YouTube, and start cashing in on the traffic from the fourth most popular website online right now.
See you then.
