First of all, log into the system with the username and password we sent to you when we notified you your site was ready for you to edit and add content. Now we are safely at the dashboard of your new website, let’s take a look at your posts menu. You only really need to pay attention to the options edit, and add new for now.

Your posts are what you will find on the home page of your website.

Creating the homepage as a post makes it very easy for you to change and update the content on a regular basis. The reason this is so important is because if it is one thing search engines love it is fresh content, so the more you add to and rotate your content, the more the search engines will visit and index that content, the more active and important your website becomes. This, amongst a range of other factors, will help you to rank higher in the search engine results.

But more on this in tutorial 3, adding new posts to your homepage.

We’ll visit the website now to demonstrate, by right clicking on visit site, and selecting open in new tab. You will see the website is just how we left it for now. Having this tab open makes it easy to switch between your edit screen and your website to refresh and view your changes.

Within the dashboard, you are easily able to edit this page by clicking on the edit link in your posts menu. Then when you hover over the post you wish to edit you will see a series of options appear. You wish to edit this post, so just go ahead and click edit. A what you see is what you get editor will open for your homepage post.

So I’m just going to go ahead and edit this post to demonstrate. As you can see you are able to format the text in any way you like, change the colour, insert bullet points and do just about anything you can do with Word or in your e-mails.

If you scroll down the page of an existing post, you will see a number of options. If you’re simply editing there is no need to pay any attention to these as we have already formatted them for you, or you would have once you have learnt how. I’ll introduce you to what these options mean in the add new posts video you will see later in the series.

Because we are just editing, we can go ahead and simply click update post. You will be notified here for your post has been updated.

So let’s go back to the tab we have open and refresh the website. You will see that the changes I have just made have taken effect and we have successfully edited our existing post.

And it’s as easy as that to edit posts at the backend of your website.
